The Headteacher has high expectations of this appointment: in charge of overseeing the school on a day to day basis, candidates will need to be able to manage general responsibility for a range of tasks.
They will need to be a visible, respected and positive leadership presence around the site, able to handle a range of planned and unexpected scenarios.
These may include meeting parents and visitors (including local authority colleagues), performance managing staff and overseeing CPD, ensuring adequate staff numbers (and cover where required), timetabling and managing the school diary, budgets and planning, as well as managing support staff and non-learning aspects of the school’s operations. There is also an expectation that candidates will teach around 10 lessons per week.
We are looking for someone who can work independently, know when (and how) to say ‘no’, and who is ready for a role with high levels of responsibility and autonomy. Candidates will need to have a sophisticated grasp of the right procedures in difficult or sensitive contexts, minimising risks to the school. Personally credible, trustworthy, respected by staff, pupils and parents, it’s likely that candidates will see this as their final role before securing their first Headship.
